The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is setting a new standard for sustainable sourcing – and we are engaged. At Duni, we are aligning our practices with the regulation´s requirements to ensure that our products support global efforts to protect forests and biodiversity.

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, is a major step in the EU environmental policy, aiming to reduce the EU contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation.

It applies to several key commodities and their derived products, including wood, cocoa, coffee, soy, palm oil, rubber, and cattle.

The EUDR is transforming the industry in the supply chain traceability, meaning:

Full traceability becomes standard.
Compliance broadens from upstream (foresters) to include midstream players like manufacturers, distributors, and brand owners.
Supplier pressure to be transparent, digitalized, and proactive.

Companies must ensure that any imported, exported or produced commodities or products in the EU meet the following criteria:

Ensure products are deforestation-free.
Products have been produced in accordance with the relevant legislation in the country of harvest.
Products are covered by a Due Diligence Statement (DDS). Read more about DDS in the FAQ below.

Any company that places, makes available, as well as export from them Union relevant products as listed in Annex I, that contain, have been fed with or have been made using relevant commodities, namely, cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood.

Following the adoption of the proposed amendments to the EUDR, the application date is postponed to 30th December 2026, with simplified obligations for certain actors. EUDR Statement EUDR Q&A

The products that are in scope of EUDR are determined by their import/export Harmonized System (HS) codes.

EUDR includes Chapter 47 and 48 as in scope of the regulation. This includes napkins, table covers, paper cups, paper bowls, paper plates, etc. However, the exclusions from this category are goods made from 100% recycled fiber, 100% bamboo fiber, and 100% bagasse fiber.

Fiber based packing material used only to support, protect, or carry another product is also not in scope of EUDR.

Additionally, tableware made of wood (HS code 4419) is included in the scope of EUDR. Bamboo cutlery is excluded from EUDR, as it is a non-wood forest product. To see the full list of products in scope, see Annex 1 of EUDR. Find the regulation here.

Which EUDR-relevant commodity is predominant in Duni's products?

Wood based products are the only commodities in scope for Duni.
Does Duni qualify as an SME under EUDR?

EUDR compliance is based on a legal entity level, whereby some Duni Group legal entities are classified as SMEs whereas others are not.
Where do the raw materials or products Duni uses/sells originate from?

From the EU countries classification list published on May 22, 2025, Duni sources from low and standard risk countries. Duni does not source from high-risk countries. To find the EU classification of countries please click here.
What does Duni's due diligence system look like under the EUDR?

Duni Group has transitioned its due diligence system from the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) to align with the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), ensuring full compliance with the updated procedures.

Our due diligence system includes:

•   Risk assessment in line with the criteria outlined in Article 10 of the EUDR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115).
•   Risk mitigation measures as required by Article 11 of the EUDR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115).
•   Comprehensive documentation of all relevant records.
•   Retention of records for a minimum of five years.
Who conducts the risk assessments and how are they done?

The risk assessments are conducted by the Sustainability department. We have been conducting these types of risk assessments for products in scope for EUTR for many years.

The first step is collecting all the necessary documentation from our suppliers which we will then assess against the requirements previously mentioned.
Does Duni Group have geolocation information and is it included in the Due Diligence Statement (DDS)?

As Duni Group acts as an operator/trader placing products on the European market, we currently do not foresee the need to share all supporting documents used in the risk assessment of in-scope products.

Instead, customers will receive the DDS reference number and verification number. This approach is based on our current interpretation of the EUDR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115).
Is Duni Group familiar with EU TRACES System and is Duni Group registered?

Yes, Duni Group is familiar with EU TRACES and registered. Several Duni Group employees have received training on the EU TRACES system.
Does Duni Group have EUDR-relevant certifications of your products? (e.g. FSC or PEFC for wood and paper materials).

Yes, Duni Group has FSC certified entities and can provide FSC certified goods.
Has Duni Group assessed suppliers on their EUDR readiness?

Yes, through certification schemes, interviews, questionnaires, and frequent communication.
